This was known as the celebration of America’s first gay pride parade.
On June 28, 1970, marking the one year anniversary of the Stonewall Riots, people flooded the streets to celebrate. The police removed employees and patrons out of the bar, causing riots and protests to occur. Police raided the Stonewall Inn, a gay club, at the early hours of June 28. Pride started as a result of the Stonewall Riots that occurred in 1969 in Greenwich Village, New York.
